Autumn Scenes
Welcome to my new canvas paintings
at my Echo Mtn Website.
Talcott Park located in Rockville, CT
(acrylic painting on textured claybord)

Painting done completely by observation from my photo. This was a particularly nice photograph with the light in the top of the trees and the shadows under the trees. I will attempt to do this one again to add in a missing sidewalk going across.
Blue Lake (acrylic on textured claybord)
Painting finished by an observation from the photo.
The colors are magnificent. This is my favorite painting.
I have changed the photo by adding in the small pine trees and red leaved plants below.
I am a beginning artist. I like things to come out straight and not crooked so it is very important to get things precisely where they should be in a painting.
That way it eliminates mistakes. Accomplishing these paintings and receiving nice compliments, keeps me going to do more paintings.

By finding the light and shadows in the particular photo I learn how to finish a painting.  I know how to do that now since I have taken a Photography course which showed me simplification of the subject and knowing your light source.

Most of my paintings take anywhere between 4-10 hours to complete. Once I feel more accomplished in my paintings by studying subjects thoroughly, then I will attempt more plein-air paintings or alla prima work to begin the painting.

In my book I purchased: "Techniques of the Great Masters of Art", I have read that some of the great masters of art have actually painted by either tracing their subject, or using a ruler for exactness, or drawing the subject using a grid.  They then start painting the background first and go forward producing layer upon layer and with the final layer adding in the scumbling for texture and glazing for highlights.

If you would like to sign my guestbook at my sitemap you can leave your comments on my work. Thank you for viewing.
